Christmas Paper Circuit Card
What is a circuit?
A circuit is a path which electrical current can flow. If you have a battery, a bulb and wires, you can make a simple circuit. In this science activity, we are going to make a card with a circuit. The circuit will be used to make Harry Potter's magic wand with a bright glow at the tip of the wand. Sounds amazing, right?
Materials
-
card template
-
copper tape
-
coin cell battery
-
LED (Light-emitting diode)
-
tape
-
scissors
-
markers or crayons
Procedures
-
Click "download" and get the Christmas Paper Circuit Card template.
-
Color and decorate your card first.
-
Turn the template over. There you can see the circuit lines.
-
Apply the copper tape to all of the circuit lines.
-
Attach the coin cell battery. The negative side should face down.
-
Cover and fix only the half of it with tape.
-
Attach the LED to the template.
-
Poke two small holes on the card and let the legs of the LED go through it.
-
Make sure both pins of the LED touch the copper tape.
-
Tape the legs of the LED to the card.
-
Now check if the LED turns on.
Science Behind It
Electricity is a flow of electrons around a circuit. Electrons flow from the negative end of the battery, through the copper tape, to the positive end of the battery. (Current flows from positive to negative and electron flows from negative to positive.) This happens only when the entire circuit is closed. When the circuit is closed, the light turns on. When it is open, it doesn’t turn on.
